Artificial Intelligence Genie in a bottle

Must read

AI GENIE IN A BOTTLE

In 1950, John McCarthy coined the term “artificial intelligence ” or “AI” and designed the notion of programming machines to use language for solving problems along with colleagues from IBM, Harvard and Bell Labs. Over the years, disruptive advancement in AI is changing the way we interact, work and live with the induction of virtual reality, IoT and automation in transportation, healthcare, prediction of natural disaster, strengthen our economy and more interestingly helping in farming and mitigating climate change.

In a nutshell, AI has a footprint in every aspect of human society. In contrary, AI poses a threat to humans warned by high-profile personalities including Stephen Hawking and Bill Gates by dint of biased algorithms, employment exigency, privacy invasion, and tech addiction, even Elon Musk theorizing that this could “summoning a demon.”

The future of AI and societal impacts series of rhetorical questions are needed to be addressed: can these algorithms be trusted with our lives and hopes? How do we know that the machine has not been insidiously-programmed to fool us? What would be a cultural influence on AI over our moral judgments? How do we know that it is not being used to grip on power regime? Alternatively, Does is AI helping people?

AI has fundamentally changed life on our planet. It’s no longer whose using AI to develop and design new diagnostic method with data scientists, programmer, and mathematicians. AI means to direct everywhere they can live in the vicinity of our society.

Social media are being used to flow of information in our society where everyone has held a smartphone in hand. Human is pretty much hardwired to believe what they see with their eye, so the risks of deep-fakes exist that could be used for intended purpose via pictures and video. Adobe software giant has partnered with UC Berkeley has trained on AI Face-Aware Liquify feature by a conventional neural network to spot or detect changes when images have photoshopped which could help against deep-fakes.

The Chinese government has always been criticized for surveillance network over privacy invasion that’s capable of detecting vulnerable people to shift their perception. AI-powered facial recognition technically known as Face++ has been used by Chinese police in assisting with missing person cases in the country. A man in his 70s was identified in densely populated city Xi’an having a population over 12 million and sent home less than an hour. The positive use of technology could help saves live and reunite families that may change the invasion narrative.

AI for Good making a real difference after decades of research, taking share shape and practical application in AI ecosystem. There are over 32 million deaf children globally and struggle to learn to read, much due to lack of resources bridging sign language and reading. Story Sign a free app powered by Huawei AI that reads kids selected books and interpret them into sign language and making it possible for deaf to enrich life. We ever wanted to confess some private things but couldn’t tell anyone or needed to talk but no one available. Replika chatbot self-described “AI best friend” to do and feels like talking to human developed by a true story of devastated girl Eugenia Kuyda using deep AI.

AI able to interpret medical images using deep learning algorithms as a human does by a neural network. Track Ai helping pediatric patients without a voice whose suffering from visual impairment for timely diagnosis and treatment to decide the future of over 19 million children globally, using devices called DIVE (Devices for an Integral Visual Examination). Recently, DeepMind’s has claimed a breakthrough to predict acute kidney injury (AKI) that advances our understanding and care.

AI for Humanitarian Action is providing resilience and recovery in disaster response, scalable solution to help displaced people and refugees, support to monitor, detect and prevents human rights violation, help to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and to predict and prevent famine.

The fear of “summoning demon” or “rebound effect” may no longer have a strong opinion to make a possible controversial issue for AI future and losses. No doubt, challenges like regularization, algorithms ethics, cultural influence, and unemployment need to prescribe. However, still AI genie in the bottle to enrich human life.

Conclusion, AI can push beyond what humanly impossible and has potential to graceful life to make the world better every day.
